Our Summer Festival of Healing (if you aren’t already registered with us please click here to receive our announcements) kicks off this coming Monday, August 17 with the latest healing breakthroughs including my #1 SKIN CARE SECRET for men and women – especially if you might have gotten some sun damage this summer.
Let’s face it, no matter what products and procedures you undergo, you can’t stop your skin from aging. But you CAN slow down the process and you can nurture your skin so it is healthier and looks younger, more supple and fuller.
In recent years, I’ve discovered I can no longer take my skin for granted and am conscious about my diet and the products I use for my skin. One of my top beauty secrets is Dr. Susanne Bennett who has taught me that collagen is the #1 ingredient that helps your skin look healthy and youthful.
Dr. Susanne is a chiropractic physician based in Los Angeles who developed an organic, healthy skin care line that is used by top dermatologists, plastic surgeons and medusas worldwide. She created her Purigenex skin care line to address her own skin problems and you’ll be amazed at her before and after photos!
Dr. Susanne is LIVE next Thursday, August 20 at 2PM EST. So make sure to mark your calendars and have your questions ready. Here’s a word from Dr. Susanne about her incredible work rejuvenating damaged skin.
Goodbye Needles, Hello Beautiful Skin with Collagen Absorption
by Dr. Susanne Bennett
It used to be that collagen injections were the fastest way to help delay the physical signs of aging and repair skin damage. But what if you could absorb collagen directly into your skin at home, instead of painful and expensive injections at a clinic? That’s what I’ve been able to acheive recently and I’d like to talk to you about it because collagen is much more important than just helping us to look good on the outside when it comes to our bodies.
What is Collagen and How Does it Help our Skin?
Collagen makes up 30% of all proteins found in the human body. It’s found in our bones, muscles, tendons and skin – it basically holds our body together! There are five types of collagen Type 1 through Type V, and it makes 99% of all collagen found in the human body.
Type l – is found in skin, bones, tendons, ligaments and some internal organs
Tyle ll – is found in skin, cartilage and the vitrous structure of the eye
Type lll – is mainly found in skeletal muscles and the walls of blood vessels
Type lV – makes up the majority of the internal organs
Type V – is found in most connective tissues and works closely with Type l
Collagen production declines naturally, leading to loss of structural integrity of all of the tissues it supports. Reduction of collagen Type l and ll leads to loss of skin elasticity, causing premature aging signs such as wrinkles and sagging skin, and it also causes weakness in the cartilage, tendon and ligaments surrounding our joint and even bone loss, osteoporosis.
Aging is one of those things that will happen to everyone of course, but sometimes we can damage or lose high concentrations of the collagen in our bodies, resulting from poor lifestyle choices such as:
- Smoking
- Immune deficiency
- Excess sun exposure without protection
- Lack of exercise
- Lack of sleep
- Consuming too much sugar
- Not eating enough protein and/or difficulty digesting protein
All of these factors can lead to the breakdown of our collagen but the key to premature aging is the last one– not eating enough protein, or from problems of not being able to digest the proteins into the appropriate building blocks (amino acids) to synthesize the collagen.
3 Ways to Boost your Own Collagen for a Youthful Face and Body
1. Protein is King when it comes to Building More Collagen
Collagen is made from around 1000 amino acids, which means that you need healthy levels of protein in your diet where your digestive system will be able to break it down optimally into single amino acids. Once absorbed, these vital amino acids are transported via blood steam to the appropriate areas to synthesize protein molecules specific for targeted tissues such as skin cells, bone cells, muscle and joint cells. Best biologically available proteins come from animal sources such as eggs, chicken, beef, turkey, pork, buffalo and fish (limited to once a week due mercury and radioactive nucleotides)
How much? It all depends on your weight but an average adult needs at a minimum of 4-6 ounces, 3 times a day. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, I highly recommend an essential amino acid supplement daily, you are not getting enough biologically available proteins from the vegetarian protein sources
2. Supplements which Increase Collagen for the Face and Body
Even if you have plenty of animal protein in your diet, but you are over 40 years old, I highly recommend taking essential amino acids to fortify your diet with the building blocks for collagen and protein. From age 25 to 80 years old, adults lose over 40% of their muscle and bone mass! No wonder the skin looks more wrinkled and sagging, the muscle and bones underneath is wasting away!
There are many collagen supplements available on the market that claim to promote active joints and healthy, youthful looking skin. It’s important to be aware that not all collagen supplements have been clinically proven or safety tested. However, BioCell Collagen is a dietary supplement that has been scientifically tested and proven to work (in humans!) and what’s more, it’s been certified as safe to use.
BioCell Collagen is a hydrolyzed collagen which provides substantial amounts of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulfate. GAGs are really important because they – along with collagen – help to improve connective tissue structure.
Improve Your Skin More Naturally
Beautiful skin really does begin with collagen. By improving your diet and lifestyle, supplementing with essential amino acids and collagen supplements, and also applying Purigenex collagen therapies to your skin, you can start improving your collagen from the inside out.
